The morning after I learned that my daughter died, I felt so alone and wondered where God was in my abyss of pain. Job 1:12 tells us, " And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he [Job] has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.” God was there...He gave his permission! But He also watched over, protected, and sustained Job in his grief.
The choice I faced was either to discard my faith or lean into what I knew was true: If God is good and He does not change, then it was not rational to believe that God suddenly abandoned His character and turned evil on the day my daughter died. His ways are not my ways and now I must be willing to sit with unanswered questions. My prayer has become: "God, you are good, you love me. You love my daughter. Please give me the strength to sit with my unanswered questions for your glory. I trust you to sustain me in my pain".
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
“My flesh and my heart fail: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.”
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”
“So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”
“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever".
"The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth".
